You've got access to all the resources you need to climb up the ranks, but that doesn't mean anything if you don't practice your actual driving.
There are plenty of opportunities to practice and get better which you have to use for self-improvement.
The road to top racer is a long and risky one.

The goal is to become the best street racer by winning all the races in Story Mode.
You can also play Street Race against random opponents to earn extra money.
Even if you lose a race, you'll still earn money and can always try races again.
Before you begin, you can visit the garage for other cars, upgrades to improve your current cars, and the shop for additional items.
All of those will cost coins which are tracked at the top of the screen and you can earn more by competing in races.
When you're ready, you can click the Race option.
During races, your car will automatically accelerate and turn without your input.
You need to watch the speedometer and press on the pedal whenever the needle is in the highlighted sweet spot for additional boosts.
When turning, you need to press the pedal when in the green part of the turn.
You can also use Nitro to gain a speed boost if needed.
You'll receive coins after you reach the checkered area whether you win or lose.
Tips and Tricks
This is a racing game that is more technical and about timing than taking direct control.
There's no consequence of losing, so you can do Street Race multiple times to build up your coins for a car or upgrades that you want.
From there, you can improve your chances and skills with more races.
